Potato fans on a diet can substitute the starchy potato with cauliflower, a much healthier, low calorie alternative. Simply cook cauliflower florets in a covered pot with a bit of water and chopped onion until tender, then puree it while hot with vegetable or chicken bouillon and freshly-ground pepper to taste. Doing this will give you a great low carb side dish for dinner. If your main purpose in exercising is to lose weight, you should focus more on cardiovascular exercise than on weight training. You should do some light weight lifting for tone but cardio is what will help you lose weight. While muscle mass certainly has its place in weight loss, raising the heart rate is far more important for loss to occur.
Separate your food into healthy portion sizes when you get home from grocery shopping. Use containers, such as baggies, to easily hold and store your measured portions. It will also enable you to fix a meal more quickly, and avoid the temptation to increase the portion size when your are particularly hungry.
